Every city has its hidden gems, and for us, Calgary's Seton Playground, is one of them. Nestled at 91 Seton Gardens SE, in a growing community, this playground is more than just swings and slides; it's a haven for families, a place where memories are made.
It's my kid's go to playground, a place where we have built countless memories, and continuously return to time and time again. I recently came to know that this playground is also known as "Elsa's Tower," and honestly, it couldn't be more fitting. Much like Elsa's enchanted kingdom, every time we visit, it feels like stepping into a magical realm.
A Dad's Perspective
Like every gem, this playground has its sharp edges. The towering structure, while a marvel for the older kids, can be a bit daunting for the little ones. I've witnessed a few tumbles from that inmost climbing area, and it's a sight no parent wants to see. So, a word of advice from one dad to another: keep a hawk's eye on the younger ones, especially when they're scaling the heights of that tower. Or even better, if your kid's are on the younger side, take them up with you and go down the slide together! Please be a present and active parent when heading off to any playground with your children, but especially when exploring Elsa's Tower.
A Playground for All Ages
What I genuinely appreciate about Seton Playground is its versatility. Whether it's my youngest trying to master the art of walking or the older ones seeking a thrill, there's a corner for everyone. The dedicated area for toddlers ensures they have their fun without the chaos of the older kids. And for those seeking a bit more adventure, the tall tower and roller slide never disappoint.
Oh, and if you're in for a bit of a race, bring those scooters along. The adjacent hill is perfect for some downhill fun, and the kids absolutely love it.
More Than Just Slides and Swings
Seton isn't just about the play equipment. It's a community hub. The shaded spots are perfect for those summer picnics, and the pathways are ideal for some reflection time. The recycled tire flooring, is something I genuinely appreciate as my boys are always getting rocks in their shoes! And the on going construction around the area gives the kids lots of things to see and learn about. They will point and ask questions and you as a dad can be the hero with the answers. If you don't know the answer to a question, do what I do and head on over and politely ask the workers present. In the past some have even invited my boys to climb aboard their equipment to check it out. I believe everyone really enjoys passing on their knowledge to those wanting to know, so just ask. Coming from a background in construction and the retail building supply side of things, I always enjoy these moments, but don't be annoying. If the workers are busy, let them work and politely watch as they bring home the bacon to their families. On a final note, there is also tons of grass and flat field space surrounding the playground, so bring a soccer ball and have a blast running around.
Our Favorite Hangout
It's no secret in our household: mention Seton Playground, and you'll have the kids rushing to the car in no time. Their excitement, their anticipation, it's palpable. And that's the magic of this place. It's not just a playground; it's our family's adventure spot. One final thought though. This being a popular spot, and adding in all the construction around the area right now, parking can be difficult to find. So if you do drive out to this playground, be sure to pack the stroller just in case you end up parking a few blocks away.
Now the boys and I have played at perhaps hundreds of different playgrounds in and around the city and we want to share them all with you. Some are amazing like Seton, and some have been real duds, but I can show you how to make even the duds a super fun experience! If you want more Calgary playground reviews just like this one on Seton's Elsa's Tower, stay tuned as I will be posting more of these.
